To commemorate Older Americans Month, Reverse Mortgage Magazine examines steps that homeowners in their early 60s can be taking now to modernize their homes to accommodate independent living as they age, and the role of reverse mortgages to help make it happen.

The flexibility of reverse mortgages—particularly the option to finance a new home purchase—can support Aging in Place as a financial strategy to “maintain liquidity for future needs or moving to more desirable, albeit costlier, locations,” notes Tara Ballman, AIP business development manager for Longbridge Financial LLC. “By using equity from their previous home and a reverse mortgage, they can afford these transitions, ensuring comfort and independence.”

In response to the devastating wildfires in California in early 2025, Celink contributed a “Servicing Corner” to help reverse mortgage professionals and borrowers understand how insurance claims work for properties with a reverse mortgage.
