Reverse Mortgage Jan-Feb 2021

In Reverse changing and adapting along the way—are now capturing opportunities for 2021. This edition also brings a few relatively minor but meaningful changes to Reverse Mortgage . In an effort to freshen up some of our features, we have similar informa- tion and content but with different names. The changes reflect, in part, how the industry continues to evolve. In the What’s News section—formerly called The Biz —we will continue to offer the items that will help you stay informed. This edition, we include brief reports about how the pandemic is affecting retirees (p. 8). Borrower Chronicles is now called Those We Help (p. 32). The name speaks for itself. And the stories of how loan officers have helped families—sometimes saving them from a finan- cial crisis—offer an inspiration to everyone in the industry who must persevere through all the obstacles in what can be a tough business. Late in life, seniors have a way to live com- fortably—free from financial stress—and sometimes with the option of helping their loved ones. You give them that option. “The reverse mortgage helped with our financial secu- rity,” says Julian Fredie, 80. “We have the extra funds to take a vacation once the pandemic ends, or to help pay for our grandkids’ college.” The feature Talking Heads is now called From the Top and still offers a thoughtful discussion with an industry leader. This edition we talk to Terry Connealy, president, Mutual of Omaha Mortgage. One name we didn’t change is the feature that show- cases the work of CRMPs. CRMP: Across the Kitchen Table will continue to profile professionals in the indus- try. When the pandemic ends, a lot of loan officers will go back to face-to-face meetings. The new technologies are here to stay, including the digital tools that allow per- sonal connections with clients through remote means. CRMPs are deeply involved in their communities and understand that service and duty are at the core of what they offer clients. We have learned through the pandemic that excellent service can be provided whether across a table or over a Zoom call. We will continue to tell their stories, with a recognition that they have had to adapt along with the industry. An example can be seen in this edition’s CRMP feature, where Pamela Tennant, cofounder of Access Reverse Mortgage Corp. with her husband Mac, talks about how they always have taken the long approach to developing clients.
