July-August 2024 Issue

The July-August edition of Reverse Mortgage magazine includes a deep discussion with Julia Gordon, Assistant Secretary for Housing and Federal Housing Commissioner, who outlines how the HECM has undergone significant changes and improvements in recent years.

“We remain deeply committed to this program,” says Gordon. “The input that we’ve had from the industry and the dialogue that we have both with individual lenders and servicers, as well as with NRMLA, is critical to helping us maintain and enhance this program for the seniors who rely on it.”

We also examine the critical importance of education and training to entice forward loan officers to add reverse mortgages to their product lines and to retain existing reverse mortgage sales staff who are hungry for information.

“Whether someone has been in the industry for over a decade or whether they are new to selling reverse mortgages, training and education is a vital part of their success,” says Laura Hanna, national director of change implementation and sales development at Finance of America Reverse. “It fosters and grows their expertise, builds trust with clients, helps with career advancement and ensures we are all up to date on market changes, regulations and new products.”
