FHA Updates Unique Entity Identifier Requirements

FHA Updates Unique Entity Identifier Requirements

The Federal Housing Administration updated its Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) policy for FHA-approved mortgagees as well as other entities seeking eligibility to conduct FHA business.

Details were provided in Mortgagee Letter 2024-09.

The big picture: In 2022, FHA implemented a policy that required those doing or seeking to do business with the federal government, to register for, obtain, and maintain a UEI number through the General Services Administration’s (GSA) System for Award Management (SAM.gov).

The bottom line: ML 2024-09 amends FHA’s eligibility requirements to remove the home office geographic address from data that must be the same in both the Lender Electronic Assessment Portal (LEAP) and SAM.gov. This change will streamline data reporting and support lender compliance by reducing potential contradictory information between the LEAP and SAM.gov platforms.
