Guidance for HECM Certified Housing Counselors

HUD’s Office of Housing Counseling announced that the Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM) Client Budget and Resources Identity Tool (CBRIT) is no longer available.

To continue providing quality counseling that is compliant with HUD Handbook 7610.1, HUD HECM certified housing counselors may utilize other calculation tools so long as their selected tools allow them to meet statutory and regulatory counseling requirements and policies.

This action is being taken due to the DOGE’s cancellation of the CBRIT tool contract. A waiver has also been approved.
