Rep. French Hill Chosen to Lead Financial Services Committee

On December 12, 2024, House Republican leaders selected Rep. French Hill (R-AR) to chair the House Financial Services Committee in the 119th Congress.

What’s next: The House Republican Conference is expected to ratify the steering committee’s pick in the coming days.

  • Reps. Andy Barr (R-KY), Bill Huizenga (R-MI) and Frank Lucas (R-OK) all sought the position, which is being vacated by retiring Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC).

Why it matters: The Financial Services Committee has jurisdiction over housing policy matters, including FHA programs like the HECM.

Rep. Hill currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology and Inclusion. Additionally, he is a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

Prior to his congressional service, Congressman Hill was Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of Delta Trust & Banking Corporation.
