Senate Aging Committee Holds Faud Hearing

The U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging held its annual hearing to discuss the latest trends involving theft against older adults.

  • The hearing coincided with the release of the latest edition of Fighting Fraud: Scams to Watch Out For, a resource published by the committee to help older adults identify a scam and resources to help them if they’ve been victimized.

What They’re Saying: In his opening statement, committee chairman Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) said, “Over the past few years, scammers have gotten increasingly sophisticated in how they contact and prey on their targets. With the advent of Artificial Intelligence, scammers can now make their messages, both online and over the phone, more convincing.

  • Email or computer pop-up scams used to be more easily identifiable, but now are much harder to detect.”
